Nov 28, 2009 Holly Thacker

Butterfly Beach is a three star hotel located on the South coast of Barbados.

Situated on the sea front, Butterfly Beach hotel has access to two beaches at either side. There is a pool, three jacuzzis and a sundeck area. The hotel is in a good location with Oistins, home of the famous fish fry, only a few minutes away. In the opposite direction is the popular St Lawrence Gap, which is just a short bus ride from the hotel.

Island and Ocean Views on Barbados

The hotel has a new five storey building offering both island and ocean views, as well as a block of apartments. The ocean views are incredible and it is definitely worth upgrading. The staff are friendly and will be able to help with any questions or requests. There is internet access and a computer in the lounge room.

Rooms at the Butterfly Beach Hotel

The rooms are quite basic but very spacious. Rooms are cleaned daily, with bedding changed and clean towels provided. Extra towels can be requested from reception. Rooms have much-needed air conditioning and fans, large wardrobes, and most have small kitchen units consisting of a sink, toaster, fridge and hob. There is a telephone and a safe. Balconies have table and chairs aswell as sundecks.

The restaurant menu is simple (burgers, fishcakes, sandwiches) but is good for grabbing lunch, taking advantage of their lunchtime happy hour and observing the stunning ocean views. Breakfast is available daily.

Nearby Amenities

There are bus stops outside the hotel, with bus routes to Bridgetown, Holetown and Speightstown. Taxis drive by frequently – private taxis cost around $20BDS from the hotel to St Lawrence Gap. The shared minibus taxis drive along the South coast main road to Bridgetown, fares are $1.50BDS each and will drop passengers off along the way.

There is a hotel shop which sells postcards, insect repellent, newspapers, etc, and also has pool equpiment to rent. There is also a small shop on the opposite side of the road, with a larger supermarket a few minutes walk away (take a right out of the hotel and keep walking, the supermarker is on the left hand side of the road).

Just opposite the supermarket is the charming Surfers Cafe, a nice place to get lunch with tables facing out to the ocean. The menu consists mainly of fish, burgers, and a couple of vegetarian options. There is also outdoor seating, the best seats are the sheltered benches overlooking the waves.
